I really do not believe that it would mess with any prescription drugs. Actually, Tums are good for you, so chew up. They give you just as much Calcium as a glass of milk and even just as much as an expensive calcium supplement. So keep on taking them. Females cannot get enough calcium, and it will not hurt your birth control pills at all. Hope this helps you!

Happy Holidays!
Love, Katy

it can mess with some drugs if you take it at the same time (I mean *exactly* the same time) because it can inhibit absorbtion (it reduces the stomach acid necessary for such things).

I have had some scripts that said specifically not to take with antacids... but they didn't mean I couldn't take antacids, just not an hour before or after the medication.

I'd go so far as to say "within an hour or two" -- I take Synthroid every day, and I used to be on Prednisone so my doctor had me power-chomping Tums for calcium, and I was specifically told not to do lots of calcium-rich foods or Tums within three hours either side of my Synthroid, as it could inhibit absorption. I think my doctor was being conservative about the timing, but I'd at least not want to take it for a couple of hours before (so the Tums is all the way out of your stomach before you swallow the pill) and an hour or so afterwards.

Tums are fine with BC pills. Its just calcium -- you'd drink a glass of milk to swallow you pill, right?
