swallowing pills

im one of those people who has had trouble swallowing pills since i can remember. anyway, i just had to take a diflucan, and i took it with a coke. big mistake, i didnt realize the acid in coke would dissolve the pill. anyway i went to swallow and it got stuck on the roof of my because the outter covering all dissolved. so there i was gagging and i almost threw up and my brother and sister and mom were laughing at me. then i spit it out and refused to swallow it again but my mom was bitching and it was like in all these powdery pieces in my hand... so i had to take like at least 7 separate little pieces with huge spoonfools of yogurt
each spoonfull took 5 minutes for me to take because i would stand there staring at it dreading the swallowing part. ugh. i also finished a coke and a half trying to get nasty taste away. ugggh...

at least it wasnt as bad as the prednisone pill, if anyones ever had that horrible orange bronchitis pill you know what i mean... *shiver*

thank god the birth control pills are tiny!

I know how that is. I can't take pills.

Even the birth control ones as bad as that sounds.

I keep thinking I'll choke.

i dont think ill choke, its just the taste, im worried i wont be able to swallow it and then whatever im drinking will dissolve it so i can taste it and throw up. iccck. i hate throwing up

i am the same way.

I always blamed it on my mom, who never mad me take pills until i was a pre-teen.

I can get the BC down, but pain killers (ie, excreden) is a bitch for me.

I have to have the gel-coated pills otherwise it just is not happening :-p

i used to not be able to take pills...which was a problem because i have always been the sickest in the family...plus im allergic to a lot of medicines so it's hard to get them in liquids...finally i managed to swallow my first pill by shoving it with my finger down my throat...after doing that for a while, i finally was able to swallow pills....

and man, the ones i have now are HUGE

I'm the same way!, always have been. When I got my pelvic infection in my fallopian tube/s, my fiance had to force me to take my antibiotics, and they reacted with me when i forgot to eat fod with them, and I spent 2days vomiting and sleeping. And I refused to take them again, and he had to force me to :(

I feel your pain. I didn't learn to swallow pills until I was about 17. Even then I'd have trouble with gagging. I just wanted to stick with the horrible bubble-gum tasting pink liquid.

But seriously, it becomes easier the longer you take vitamins and medications (and if you follow the directions- most of the ones I've taken say take at mealtime, with water). In less than a year, I went from not being able to swallow them at all to swallowing the hard-coating, big all-natural ones. Now I can't take gelcaps anymore because they're not vegetarian. You'll get better at it :)

okay so... i LOVE taking pills. have since i was tiny. a lot of times i have to take powders for headaches and such and i found the perfect way to take it without tasting it. it works for pills as well.
the description i can best think of is how one takes a shot of alcohol so as not to taste it. take some liquid and toss it to the very back of your throat... keep your head back, drop the pill in, and swallow (sort of open your throat up as quickly as you can). immediately drink some water to make sure it goes all the way down and dissolves in your stomach. you shouldnt be able to feel the pill at all. it sounds complicated but its really not all that difficult and it works!

I cant swallow big pills, or pills with anything but coke... It helps it float but not too much.

I cant stand the bubbling, nasty taste to it that makes you gag :/
