That was me almost 6 years ago. First of all, make sure you know your family's medical history. This is so that when the nurse asks you your medical history you can answer it. Answer all questions honestly, your medical history is one of the initial factors in deciding which form/dosage of BC to put you on. Ask any and *all* questions you have. One thing I wish I had done during my first pelvic (I'm assuming this will also be your first) is ask the dr. examining you to explain what she's doing while she's doing it. Most doctors should and do anyways, but it's always good to know. Before you go, do research on the biggest birth control pills out there so you have some knowledge base before you go. The best patient is an informed one. Most importantly though - try not to be scared or nervous. Your first time is nerve-racking, but every woman goes through it annually. Don't worry, remember there are plenty of us here to support you!

Be honest with them - most have heard it all before. Also ask about timing - some pills have to be taken within 23-25 hours of the last one - if you are organised, this is great, if not...

Also, you will [hopefully] be told this time & time again, but if your doctor doesn't know you are on the pill you may not be warned -

If you take antibiotics & the pill at the same time you are not protected against pregancy

I have a friend with a son thanks to not being told this! Also if you have certain sorts of illness - vomiting/diarhoea are the classics - the chemical absorbtion may be affected and again, use condoms as well.
