but does anyone who's moved from pads to tampons think that wearing tampons extends the length of your period? Mine lasts five days; i've rarely ever had a period that was longer or shorter, but this time, using tampons, it's lasted for seven days so far, and i thought it was done this morning because i wore a pad last night, not a tampon and it was completely clean, but i didn't really feel right about it, so i wore a pad all day and lo and behold, i bleed some, but not a lot. it's kind of weird. anyone else experience something similar? Or is it just something funky that I'm doing wrong?

I haven't noticed a correlation between the length of my period and what I use to catch the blood.

I had just the opposite experience...I moved from tampons to pads and noticed that my period seemed to "get shorter". This may or may not be accurate, but my thought has been that the fact that a tampon is in such close proximity to the blood leaving the uterus makes it more readily noticeable, whereas with a pad, the blood has to move all the way through the vagina and vulva to the pad. Toward the latter half of my period, my flow is much lighter, so I don't tend to menstruate much or at all at night, but when I'm up and active and gravity has a chance to work my flow starts up a bit again. On nights that I might wear a tampon overnight, there might be a bit of blood that would have been otherwise unnoticed had I worn a pad (or nothing at all).

I had just the opposite experience, too. When I started using tampons, my period went from 10 or 11 days to 5.
My assumption was that since the tampon is up there, it soaks more blood up faster, therefore shortening it.

I'll agree with you. But I think it's psychological. I feel that a tampon "plugs" things up, and just wearing a pad lets gravity do it 's work and the free space lets it all flow easily. Mental, I guess.

Funnily enough, I've found the exact opposite. Mine's down to about 4 days now, and that's kind of nice. :-)

I suppose mine are the same length, give or take a day. I just figure the tampon is there and gets everything out, whereas with a pad, some things might linger longer, therefore making the period seem shorter before you're all cleansed.

I haven't noticed the difference, But I do notice during the night my flow seems to slow because I'm not standing or sitting.

Mine has gone the opposite way, my period only lasts four days now rather than five or six which is cool. x

I used to bleed for 9 days with both pads and tampons. But my Keeper put me down to 4-5 days. I think it might be the chemicals in the things. Maybe i'm paranoid. But the time change can't be ignored.
