Anyone here have any experience with Sea Pearls (Atlantic natural sea sponge tampons that are reuseable, an environmentally friendly alternative to tampons)?

I use them on my lighter flow days, when I feel like my Keeper is just overkill. But they work wonderfully. I clean them by rinsing and then soaking in Hydrogen Peroxide and water, a bit of tea tree oil at the end of my cycle. They're great, and hold quite a bit. I can imagine you might have leaking if your flow is heavy on certain days. What I love is when I'm having spotty days, I can put one in, and because you insert them wet, there's none of that horrid dry removal feeling you often get with tampons.

oooh, that sounds good, good, good. my question however would be about the integrity of the sponges. i've had bath sponges of natural seasponge before, and they disintegrated pretty quickly; bits of them would just crumble off (yes, even when wet), and i don't think i'd like that happening inside me...?

Well, i haven't been able to use mine long term (i got pregnant the cycle after getting them), but if you are careful with them, they are supposed to have a lifespan of about a year. i would suggest you disinfect with tea-tree oil instead of boiling as boiling will tend to break them down quicker, but that is personal choice.

If you have questions, you can call the company, the owner often answers the phone and is quite nice and knowledegable (eek, can't spell!). It is all women-owned and they are great.

i just loved mine the month i got to use mine! :)

I've used mine for probably 4 cycles, I've got two that I alternate, though I primarily use one. They're pretty sturdy so far. No breaking, tearing, anything.

I just sort of crumple them up and push them in. I've never really had any issue. I sort of crumple it and use all my fingers to put it in, then use a single finger to slide it into place. But I'm very comfortable with my body, even when I did use tampons, I used OB applicator free, so perhaps it's just a process I'm used to. I'm fairly small, and I've never had to trim the sponge at all.

I use them. My biggest complaint is sneezing. When I sneeze, I clench my muscles all over, including my vaginal muscles. The results in spurting coochieness.

Also, I find that I must have my nails trimmed and filed very short to avoid tearing the sponge and to avoid tearing my own vaginal tissue. This is a pain for me as I don't enjoy trimming nor filing my nails. They tend to be long and are filed once for shape, then left to grow.

i don't use "sea pearls" brand but i use sea sponges -- i love them. If inserted damp, they are much more comfy than regular tampoms & on light flow days I can even have sex with one in.

I don't use them on the really heavy days, though; I use rags.
