sheer insanity is driving me to ask this question....does anyone else have very dry, itchy nipples? I know how weird that sounds!!!! But this has been plaguing me for the past 6 months or so. I have always had naturally dry skin, but till now I have not really noticed it, or been bothered by it on my nipples. But nowadays the skin on my nipples and especially the areolas is VERY dry, sometimes to the point of tiny cracks in the skin. Scratching doesn't help and it's kindof dangerous anyway, since the nipple area is so sensitive anyway...dragging my fingernails across the skin there isn't such a great idea. I use Aveeno moisturizing body wash and I put St. Ives whipped silk moisturizer all over before I get dressed each morning. I find myself getting annoyed with having to wear bras because bras make the area itch even more!! I'm not allergic to perfumes or fabrics, so that's not the reason my breasts itch so terirbly. Does anyone else have this problem? Has anyone found any solutions to dry skin on the breasts? If so please comment!! This is driving me crazy.

Instead of using those lotions that may have mineral oil in them, which drys the skin, try some extra virgin olive oil to moisturize your nips.

In terms of itch, maybe some essential oil of lavender(if it's available) or hydrocortison cream?

Vitamin E cream. It's the best thing I've found for skin so dry that it cracks and bleeds. (I used to get it on my feet like that.)

I've found that I have similar problems if I've been having a lot of sex which has involved nipple sucking. If my bra annoys me I take a gauze pad and tuck it over my nipple between the bra and breast.

Two things - if there is any lace on your bra, it may be that it's irritating your skin (and you may also have developed an allergy - they say we humans do that as we get older). Try cotton for a while.

Having said that, there's a product that you can buy through Avon or the body shop or whathaveyou. It's basically a nipplebalm stuff. It was made for women who are breastfeeding and suffering from that sort of pain and discomfort, but since it's a great big roller of solid moisturizer, it might just be heavy duty enough to do the job, without being too abrasive on that oh so sensitive skin.

i know exactly how you feel! over the past few months, my boobs have been itching like crazy. it happens after i take off my bra.. i started off scratching them, then it hurt.. so i just furiously rub them. then, i was on the phone with my friend.. and he suggested I put lotion on them. (pretty smart for a 15 year-old guy.) so i did that, and it helped greatly. now whenever I itch, i just put my Curel lotion on my boobs.
hope it helped.

forgot something..

I recommend "Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Hand Cream" It's super moisturizing, very thick stuff. A tiny bit helps dry skin to no end.

I get that a lot in the winter. I've found that a heavy body cream works best, applied twice a day for when its really bad. And avoid scratchy fabrics like lace or wool.

Oh yeah--I get dry skin everywhere, and that's part of it! I'd recommend just plain vaseline or pure vegetable shortening; let it dry a bit before putting on a bra though, so the skin and not the cloth absorbs it!

ever since i moved to the east coast...

Winter has been an absolute festival of flaking, itchy skin. My elbows and knees and ankles get all dry and scratchy, like lizard skin, and my whole body peels. It's like I'm moulting. I itch everywhere, but for some reason, the itching on my nipples drives me crazier than itching anywhere else. Maybe it's all the nerve endings?

I enthusiastically endorse Neutrogena Norwegian formula. It's about the only thing that works on my itchy winter nipples (and other skin).

You might try switching detergents, even without being allergic to something specific sometimes a detergent can be more abrasive than your skin likes.
