Well, the Keeper (http://www.keeper.com) is a wee rubber cup that you wear in your vagina and empty twice a day. It lasts for TEN YEARS and it's free of chemicals and it doesn't pollute. It's my product of choice, and despite looking a little scary in the pictures, it has really been the best thing ever. There's even a silicone version for people with latex allergies, called a MoonCup (http://www.mooncup.co.uk).

The Instead is a disposable version of the Keeper, but not really because they look quite different. It is worn higher around the cervix whereas the Keeper is lower. It looks like a baby jellyfish, so i've been told. Allegedly, you can have sex with it in. You can get them at CVS, I think. The only downside is that they are disposable, but i know people will rinse and reuse a few times.

Sponges (http://www.jadeandpearl.com) are smallish natural sea sponges that you wear in your vagina to soak up your period. You get two and you wash them between uses. They last 6 months.

I'm interested in trying those sea sponges, but I'm a tad hesitant about the whole having to wash them bit. That just isn't my idea of fun.

yeah, washing the keeper isn't a pain in the ass, like the sponges seem to be. 1) you can wait until you get home each day 2) wiping it off is fine, either with a wet paper towel or even a bit of toilet paper. sponges, you'd hafta wring them out or something. can anybody clear that up?

Here's my sea sponge FAQ (http://mwmw.com/dodo/ssfaq.html). If you're not in a place with a nice private sink, you can pop the used sponge in a film canister and wash it when you get home. Switching from tampons to pads and/or sponges has really reduced my cramps!
