got a question

which women groups, singers, speakers, artists, djs ect would you like to see perform/speak????

see, I am starting this women's organization at my school (American U) and we are planning events for the next coming year...we want to have cool women come and perform. Our events are going to be fun so we can appeal to a larger audience while still reinforcing feminist awareness...all while squashing nasty femin-natzi stereotypes we all hate...but we need ideas...and a cool name....HELP!

Ideas!!

How about having someone come in and talk about midwivery? Herbal healing and being in touch with your bodies natural rhythems.... Learning that being feminine and being strong don't have to be mutually exclusive.... A conference on redefining the female archetype as opposed to the ones that society has imposed on us in recent years. There are plenty from pre-Judeo Christianic Cultures that offer positive reinforcement showing that the concepts of respect and loving of the female for herself as opposed to forcing her into a one sided role are older than have been recognized and it's not a new concept. Learning how to honor the masculine essence within our society by first honoring the feminine. Without one there cannot be the other. A truly feminine archetype doesn't feel a need to emasculate it's males. Thus no need for Femi-Nazisism.... Just some thoughts. You asked for it. Sorry if I overwhelmed you.

She might not exactly fit the bill though. She's a writer and more importantly a teacher of writing/journaling. She not quite "feminist" but she is very much "humanist".

How about Judy Chicago?

Or Annie Sprinkle?

Or Betty Dodson?

Too heavy? Too offensive? I dunno.

I think FLO would be a good name for your group, but can't think of good words for the acronym.
