IUD question/problem?

OK, so I have almost had my copper IUD for a month now and it is coming up on the time I would have my period again. For the last couple of days I have been getting VERY painful cramps but no bleeding yet. Just some brown spotting that comes and goes. Tonight I still see no blood but the cramps are incredibly painful. They hurt to the point where it almost makes me want to throw up ( and i almost never throw up) and I can barely move. I took some Ibprofen (sorry for the spelling there) and am using a hot water bottle but these SUCK.

Is this something that should worry me? I know it is supposed to make your periods more painful but this is WAY more painful than anything I am used to and I am used to heavy cramping during my period. Has anyone else who has the copper IUD experienced this?

i have not experienced that; you might want to give your GYN a call. I know that they say the first couple periods with an IUD are worse but my copper T did not give me extra-severe cramps, just maybe more cramps. I do get a little brownish spotting before the actual period (which I don't mind at all; it's like a warning). But your cramps sound exceptionally bad so you might want to check with your dr! Hope you feel better soon!

My copper IUD gave me more severe cramping and bleeding the first few months but eventually it settled down. However, I did not have the kind of cramping you're talking about. I would definitely call the doc now.

It is a billion times better than being on hormones for me I can tell you that. I had tried many different birth control pills and none of them worked well with me. I lost my sex drive and gained weight and my depression got really bad. Since getting the IUD my sex drive has come back full force (hee hee), it is much easier for me to lose the weight I gained on the pill, and I am feeling much more emotionally stable. It's great!
