A story :)

In January of 1996, when I had just turned 13-years-old and was in 7th grade, I was watching TV one night when I got horrible cramps. They lasted for about three hours and were so painful that my parents were sure I had appendicitis. Two weeks later I got my period for the first time.

I was just thinking about this today because in the past semester I've been doing a lot of research on fertility and ovulation for an evolutionary psychology class I am taking. It got me really interested and I went off hormonal birth control to being charting my cycles using the basal body temperature method. I am AMAZED. Ever since I stopped the pill, each month I get these cramps before my period, mittelschmerz or ovulation pain, as I now know to call them. Back then, when I was just first getting my period, I had no idea what was going on. And now I just think it's amazing how I can read my body and know what's going on. I'll never go on hormonal b/c again!

Sorry for the random posting, I'm just having one of those days :) But I'm curious, does anyone else in here have ovulation cramping? I hear it is very rare--only about 3 percent of the population gets it.

Have a great day!

Yup. You can set a clock by my ovaries. I don't get awful cramps, but I get that feeling, like a little reminder that I'm popping another egg. Sometimes if I'm with friends who know me well enough and I get that small cramp, I'll stop and exclaim, "I've just ovulated." More amusing than anything, I suppose.

Good for you for trusting your body.

Before I went on the pill, I had ovulation cramping from when I was about 14. I had no idea it was so rare. My mother and sisters never did, but even when I was a teenager, I was more in tough with my body than they were with theirs. I used to wake up with it almost instantly after I started bleeding, even though I usually sleep like the dead.

I get the pain too. I remember the first time I ovulated. It was right before school one day, and my mother and father thought I had the stomach flu or whatnot. An few hours later, I was absolutely fine.

I get ovulation cramps almost every month. They're really painful, and they only last for about three minutes, so taking painkillers doesn't do anything. It sucks. I still get them even though I'm on birth control, which doesn't make sense, but it happens.

i used to get it, when i was, well ovulating (i'm on the pill now), it always would aggervate/scare me for the first few months because i thought my period was coming early. then i started counting back the days to & from & it indeed was ovulation! yay to be special, 3%! :>

I used to get them in my teens ( now 21) but I had no idea they were so rare!

They were like a mini contraction or something, I'd double over for 30 seconds and then they would go away, oooh i feeel special now
