Hi friends. I was just prescribed an antibiotic. Does anyone know whether all antibiotics interfere with the effectiveness of the Pill? Or does it depend on the type and dose?

Call your pharmacist and ask him to be sure. You might have to use backup birth control for a period of time. I had to take an antibiotic last year and my pills were rendered "less than effective" for the whole cycle.

Be safe!

Assume yes unless specifically told otherwise. And even then I personally would take NO chances. Condoms for a week or so is much better than an abortion or pregnancy.

This just came up on [livejournal.com profile] vaginapagina the other day. Instead of repeating everyone's ideas on the issue, here's what was said (http://www.livejournal.com/community/vaginapagina/1177245.html). And of course, always better safe than sorry. :)

Well, don't know if this would be the case for everyone, but one of my best friends ended up pregnant whilst on the Pill because she took penecillin, so I'd be careful. It's definately a valid question to ask the doctor, at any rate.
