Dumb sponge questions (I'm sure they've been asked a thousand times already)
Are sponges *really* just the ones they sell at the walmart in the cosmetic aisle? Like... the smaller versions of a sponge I would use to say... sponge paint my wall? How big are we talking here, if I wanted to use them instead of tampons or my Keeper?
I was looking on a few websites, but no one really gives me any ideas on size/type of sponge, etc.
Thanks!

I wouldn't use the sponges from the drugstore. For one thing, the Jade and Pearl sponges are harvested from clean water, whereas the sponges in the store might have chemicals all over them. I trust the menstrual sponge company to keep their products clean, with my vagina in mind. I'd rather not risk it.

And I would say they are about the size of a Cadbury's creme egg, from what i've seen in the store (i don't use them).

hmm... mine are actually a little *smaller* than a cadbury creme egg. maybe a little over an inch wide and about 1.5-2 inches tall.

Mine are about the same size, and are just ones meant for cosmetic use, boiled before use, and sterilised in vinegar after.

Oh, and apparently if they discolour and that bugs you, you can bleach them using hydrogen peroxide, which should disinfect too and be quite safe.

also make sure they haven't been bleached. if you find one that's perfect, but too big, just cut it down to size. aaaaand, make sure that you boil and clean it before you use it. hope this helps!

I buy the ones that are marketed as bath sponges or cosmetic sponges at my health food store. I boil them before first use, and wash them with tea tree oil soap before each month.

And I find I like having a few different sizes around -- say, from the size of an egg down to the size of a couple OB tampons side by side.
