Thanks to all the ladies who replied to my frantic "I forgot my BCP today!!" post last week. :-) I dug out my Cyclessa info and it said that missing one pill doesn't require any backup protection, especially if I take the pill I missed as soon as possible the same day. WHEW. So I wasn't worried about having sex on my anniversary. As for condoms...well...there are a couple of reasons why I have never used them. 1), my boyfriend (who was not a virgin when I met him, thus he has more experience than I do...he's the only guy I have ever had sex with) does not like condoms...I guess for him they just don't feel good. And since we didn't start having sex until AFTER I was on BCP, the question of using condoms just never really comes up. 2) condoms are evidence...my parents know I am on BC to regulate my periods, but they think I am still a virgin. And there is a fear in the back of my mind that I will forget to put away the condoms, or lube, or spermicide, or whatever before my parents pop by for a visit one day, and then I will be excommunicated from the family. So, the BC is safe...if they see it, no big deal. That's a major reason why I have never bought any condoms or lube or whatnot.
Anyway...as for the non-applicator tampons, OUCH!!! I just can't get used to them. I tried repeatedly during the heaviest couple of days of my period this month, and it just didn't happen. The tampon (becuase there was no applicator) just absorbed every bit of moisture in the opening of my vagina, so it hurt like a mofo going in!! I felt like every drop of moisture had been suddenly sucked away...it felt like pushing a roll of sandpaper up there!! So I said heck with that and went back to applicators. They are just easier for me, and they don't leave me feeling scratched and dry. Plus, I prefer using the plastic instead of my finger to push the tampon up....dunno, just a personal thing I guess. Well...I must admit my menstrual curiosity has moved on from tampons to the varuious cups I keep hearing about. Perhaps someday I will be brave enough to try Insteads or the Keeper.

He probably doesn't like being tested for STDs, either, but I hope he did that before having unprotected sex with you...

Good point, and just what I was thinking!

If you find tampoms uncomfortable, you might want to try sea sponges. (And just to reiterate what other said, do please discuss the STD issue with your BF if you haven't already!)
