i'm new and i have a few questions..sorry
Jun. 7th, 2003 04:09 pmHello,
Isnt the 14th day of your cycle the most fertile Time?
And my second question is don't you start counting on the day you start your period?
The reason i'm asking is because i'm 19 and i've never had a boyfriend who i had sex with alot and Now that I have a boyfriend who i'll be having sex with alot I really don't want to become pregnant thank you :)

Date: 2003-06-07 01:39 pm (UTC)If you don't want to become pregnant, use contraception.
The 14 day bit isn't set in stone. If your cycle is longer than 28 days or if you ovulate later in your cycle, the 14th day is moot. In fact, some women ovulate at 10 days, some at 16--it's not something that's the same for every single woman.

Date: 2003-06-07 01:48 pm (UTC)It's great you've found someone you feel so connected to, but regrettably the "rythmn method" isn't very effective. Also, sperm can live inside a woman for up to three days so it's kinda dicey even if you make love on a day that you wouldn't otherwise get pregnant just to have your egg fertilized three days later :-S Also a friend of mine's cousin used the rythmn method with her now ex-boyfriend. This is how they accidentally conceived their two little girls, whom she loves a lot, but...
Good luck, and I hope you consider using either the barrier method and/or birth control. Used together with the rythmn method you can almost guarantee that you won't get pregnant.

Date: 2003-06-07 06:08 pm (UTC)I think you may have worded that wrong. You're not fertile BEFORE ovulating. Ovulating is what makes you fertile. A few days before, yes, since the sperm can live in the vagina for a time, but not 14 days.
