How long before a yearly check up at the gyn should I stop having sex? Or does it even matter at all? I thought before I had an appointment at Planned Parenthood a few years back then quoted me like a a day or two before the appointment?

My doctors have told me everything from 24-48 hours before intercourse, but that I could have sex (just not vaginal intercourse) right up until the appointment. For me, oral and manual sex are definitely sex.

That said, I prefer not to have any kind of sex within a few hours, because I like my vagina to be in the same state every time she sees it, and "aroused" looks different from "not aroused."

72-48 hours makes sense to me. Basically, you want to avoid anything that will get foreign substances (lube, semen, spermicide) near your cervix. Anything that's not naturally produced by your body will mess up your Pap smear. (I don't know if your own lubrication would affect your Pap ... it's produced from the vaginal walls I believe, so it probably wouldn't affect your cervix. But ask your doc.)
