so i finally talked to my mom about needing to go to the gyno. i told her i felt i needed to seeing that ovarian cancer runs in the family and such. i'm also almost 20 y/o and have never been. she agreed w/ me and then i brought up the subject of birth control. i told her i'd like to go on it if it was ok w/ her (seeing as its her insurance and i still live at home). she then said "well it depends on if u want it so u can have casual sex or to regulate ur period". i about died laughing. but i told her my main reason for wanting it was so i could skip periods. she asked how..i explained and she said that wasnt very healthy but i told her that it was just fine and its been done for quite some time. i told her i wouldnt do it all the time but that i'm sick and tired of being on the rag for vacations. in the past two yrs i've been in it for at least 90% of vacations. but she said it was up to me if i wanted to b on it. so she's making me an appt. :o) but i thought her reply was hilarious..leave it up to mom to question my sexual activity..lol..ok, this is long..sorry :o) just wanted to share.

that's really cool though, that you and your mom can talk about it. :) good luck with it...do you know what brand you want yet? you should research it before you go...there are pros and cons to each type, and some are better than others for skipping periods.

When I was moving out of my first apartment, my dad and brother were moving my dad and I had some (unopened) condoms that had somehow fallen under the bed.... I almost died.
My dad was like, "Oh, you're having sex huh?" and my brother was like, "Well at least you know she's being careful." My dad said, "That's true."

No one has ever brought it up since.

My dad was like, "Oh, you're having sex huh?"

Oh god, how mortifying. What were you supposed to say -- "Yeah, Dad, and it's great!"

*giggle* Better than saying "Yeah, Dad, but I don't think I'm doing it right."

If you go with the patch make sure that you don't put it on a place that you sleep on (lays between you and your bed) because it may get too warm and dispence too much medicine, it'll make you feel sicky-sick-sick. :P

My doctor didn't even know about this, my pharmacist told me, his wife is on it.

Hehe, that is great. My mother was the one who made an appointment for me and said I was getting birth control pills to regulate my period.
