OH SOY!

I'm beginning to think that soy can bring on a period. I know that menopausal women are sometimes advised to eat soy because of the estrogens in it. And the last time I had my period it lasted a whole extra day. I realized that I had eaten tons of tofu and soy milk that same week. On top of that, a friend of mine is an animal science major, meaning she does a lot of biology. She claims that one possible reason for earlier menarche is the excess soy in some diets (I'd thought that veggie girls had later menarche. meh.)

Lastly, i'd read in a medical journal about a woman who added tons of yams and soy to her daily diet (in search of vitamin A or something) and found herself spotting off schedule. Again, yams have estrogens and menopausal women sometimes use yam based creams for easing symptoms.

Could this be a new way for us to bring on periods? Parseley tea gets competition.

Twenty years ago I had an abortion. I'm writing an essay on my emotional reactions to it, and I'd like to hear from other women who have had abortions. Also from men who have gone through abortion with their partner.

I'm a published writer, and I can promise you your ideas and thoughts will be treated with respect. Whether you aregrateful for the abortion or feel terrible regret, I will listen and not judge.

Please reply to my email address: wordweaver@compuserve.com

Thanks.

I've been interested in cloth pads for a while but now I'm actually serious about buying some next time I get paid. I've looked at a couple of sites to order from: Hag Rag, Pandora Pads and Glad Rags, and I was just curious as to who sells the best cloth pads at the best value. I'm just looking for a couple to try and if I like them I'll purchase more. I'm really looking for long ones too because I wear long pads because my flow likes to defy the laws of gravity and go everywhere, even if it's a light flow. Thanks in advance!!!

In honor of [livejournal.com profile] dinkydo and her cooter, I would like to explain Humpty's Theory of Gyno-tivity.

I don't think our gynos recognize us individually until they lift the sheet to check out our virginias. So, some years back, I decided to test my theory.

While waiting for my doctor to arrive and perform the obligatory Pap test and pelvic exam, I placed a "Groucho" pair of glasses/moustache/eyebrows over my crotch and held it in place with my thighs.

When my doctor entered the room, he lifted the sheet and I yelled, "Guess WHO?!"

He literally fell back into the sink, laughing hysterically.

Thing is, the nurse only stood there looking confused and never said a thing.

I don't think she recognized me...

I'm not sure exactly what my problem w/ the DivaCup is ... I think i may have put it in wrong, or maybe i'm taking it out too much (thus having to stick it back up there and irritate stuff)

My bladder's been bugging me. It always feels like i have to pee. I just took out my cup and ... peed all over myself (obviously not meaning to). I've been using it since last Friday and today is the first it's bothered me.

My period seems to have stopped, but i'm gonna wait one more day to see. Could that be it ... ? (It bugs me when i'm not bleeding ... I do'nt know if that's a pattern or just a coinsidence)

Thank for all your help :)

So, my period started unexpectedly and it's been going on for days and is still quite heavy. I wanted to use softcups again, but I guess they don't sell them at Smith's anymore (wah!), so I'm back to the old pads and tampons. Well, anyway, I ordered a Diva Cup online. I know it won't be shipped over in time for this period, but I've been dying to try it for a while. I told my mother about it, and she asked how you sterilize it. I said that on the website, it said you could boil it in a pot of water. She said, "I hope you throw the pot out afterwards!" I'm a poor college student, and I'm not about to throw out a pot, since those are pricey. I figure that just washing it should be fine. If I had AIDS or some other disease, it would be different, but I don't have any such diseases, and I have such a fear of AIDS anyway I try my hardest not to contract it. Now I just have to figure out how to boil it privately, since I have roommates.

so i finally talked to my mom about needing to go to the gyno. i told her i felt i needed to seeing that ovarian cancer runs in the family and such. i'm also almost 20 y/o and have never been. she agreed w/ me and then i brought up the subject of birth control. i told her i'd like to go on it if it was ok w/ her (seeing as its her insurance and i still live at home). she then said "well it depends on if u want it so u can have casual sex or to regulate ur period". i about died laughing. but i told her my main reason for wanting it was so i could skip periods. she asked how..i explained and she said that wasnt very healthy but i told her that it was just fine and its been done for quite some time. i told her i wouldnt do it all the time but that i'm sick and tired of being on the rag for vacations. in the past two yrs i've been in it for at least 90% of vacations. but she said it was up to me if i wanted to b on it. so she's making me an appt. :o) but i thought her reply was hilarious..leave it up to mom to question my sexual activity..lol..ok, this is long..sorry :o) just wanted to share.

I started my bleeding the other day, and found myself wishing I had some sort of tradition to mark the day, besides the ritualistic First Washing of the Keeper Before Insertion. I thought of how in some Jewish traditions, the woman takes a ritual bath after the end of her cycle. (I can't think of the term, sorry.) I read the first 50 pages of The Red Tent, loved the idea of pampering oneself for the duration of your blood time, then got bored with the rest of the book. Obviously, we can't shield ourselves from the world if we have jobs, etc, and I'm not Jewish.

I feel a spiritual void concerning this. Do any of you ladies have special spiritual acts that are reserved for your blood time? I thought about wearing a red ribbon during my time, but am not sure if I like the idea.
