Hello,

I have a friend who is planning to spend about 8 weeks trekking in Nepal this autumn. As she is well aware, this could conceivably span *three* periods in very, ahem, rough living. Since she's not an internetty person, I'd really like to help her find more info about precisely how to manage one's menstruation when in a situation like this, as proper disposal of disposable products could take up to three weeks (the length of the two trails she's planning to do), yet facilities to maintain reusable products could be sketchy and ideal hygiene will no doubt be near-impossible. I've suggested that she start on the pill and skip those periods, but she's a little wary of that, not having taken the pill before.

Anyone here done any trekking or travelling in these conditions that could lend some advice or point me to some websites or books dealing honestly with this issue?

hey again. i'd like to thank everyone who helped me in my last post!! you guys are great. but now i have 2 more questions!

1. pms. i know what it is. but i heard somewhere that not everyone has it. is that right? and if i do have it, will i know? b/c i'm usually grumpy w/ my parents and everything but more so about a week and a half before my period starts again. is this pms?? just wondering...

2. tampons. yes, i'm asking about tampons again. only a different question. ok so i finally had "the talk" with my mom when i went to the store and got some Playtex Slimfits and Always ultra thin pads. so she cornered me and "talked" about it. once she finished her piece, she said, "how'd you even know how to get it in" she was talking about the tampons and i said, "i read the box..." but i started thinking about that and asked a couple of my friends. i didn't have any kind of prob with it!! it took me like, 5 minutes at the most but my friends who have used one said it took them like, 15 minutes the first time they put it in. am i totally weird then???? thats all i've been thinking about lately am i weird or something?

thanks so much!!!

I'm currently waiting for my first period on the birth control pill Ortho tricyclen. I started the placebos on Sunday, so it should be coming anytime now. I'm a ticking time bomb, and I can go off any minute.

I know it is going to take about 4 months or so until my body gets used to the amount of chemicals I am pumping into it with those miniscule pills the size of mini M&M's. I just wonder how much it is going to effect this period.

Strangely I noticed I have been feeling much better this week than the last 3 weeks. Does anyone else feel crappy on the first 3 weeks of their birth control pack?

Okay i am new here. I have a "problem" and my friend recommeneded this community to me.

Recently my periods have gotten to be really heavy. I mean more then just regularly heavy. A pad cannot last me more than an hr now. My blood seems to clot a lot and it really hurts and is totally discusting. I cannot even sleep all night long with an overnight pad, i have to wake up after 4 hrs so that i can change pads. A lot of the time i find that my cloathing is soaking... it is really bad. It has happened for the past three cycles, and normally lasts about 2 days. What should i do? and is this bad? or normal?

It scares me and i feel like i am malfunctioning. I did not used to have this problem.
