"Birth control pills should not be taken by pregnant women. There is no evidence, however, that the pill can damage a developing child."

:)

Because I've seen it come up every now and then, either here or another community, and I just read this now (but already knew there was no proof of harm to the baby) and thought I should post this.

Oh, I got this from my Tri-cyclen instructions by the way. :)

NOTE:
Pregant women should not take birth control and should stop taking it as soon as they realize they are indeed pregnant. However, in the EVENT one finds out she is pregnant, her baby won't turn into an alien.
That's all I'm saying. Ive just heard a lot of hoopla about people saying how DANGEROUS it is to get pregnant while on the pill (while it's not supposed to happen there are 1-2% of cases where it does indeed happen...)

:(

I'm sorry I crossposted this like a mofo... I just want as much input as possible.

Here's what's going on:

I was on Ovcon-35 for some time, but then began spotting (which was mainly due to the fact that I wasn't taking the pills at regular intervals) so my doctor decided to switch me onto Yasmin. I gave it a try for about four months and it made me sick as hell. I constantly had an upset stomach and my periods were absolute hell.

My mum and I discussed it, and decided to give good old Ovcon a try again, thinking if I remained regular I would have more success. I'm a Sunday starter, and this is day two of my second week back on it. I'm experiencing some cramping and light bleeding/tinted discharge and I'm curious about what's up.

I've skipped my last two periods, which my doctor has approved before, and I'm wondering if this is simply my body's way of lashing out at me, hah. How long should I expect this to last... and does anyone know why this is happening? I'm just worried this pill won't work and I'll need to switch AGAIN :(

Thank you all very much in advance for any advice you can give. Everyone on here always comes through for me even if I don't post very often. You guys are lifesavers.

I've never used tampons. I've tried to wear them a few times and I can't even get the applicator in far enough to insert the tampon. Not only because it feels too uncomfortable, it might be physically impossible as well - my vagina has a sharp curve near the opening. Does anyone else have this problem? Should I try using non-applicator tampons?

I was cruising around online today and found some great links. Some are really helpful, others are just fun & interesting

Home pregnancy tests, and early pregnancy tests; a fraction of the cost of name brand pregnancy & fertility tests. They're all FDA approved and available for home delivery.

Ovulation calendar. Similar to cyclespage.com but you download this one onto your computer for FREE for 45 days. Full version cost is $29, but it also gives helpful tips for getting pregnant, staying not-pregnant, online support, and suggestions on how it may be possible to choose the gender of your baby pre-conception.

Scorecard.org Ever wonder why 90% of the girls in your neighborhood are experiencing the same menstrual anomalies? Wonder why your entire family and all your neighbors share a chronic cough? Type in your zip code and find out what toxins are being pumped into your local water sources, air, earth, etc.

Garden of Fertility Resource on many topics such as natural birth control, gynecological health (including lots of info on PCOS, ovarian cycts, etc) Ok, so they're also pitching their book, but the site has good info too.

My Battle with PCOS An interesting and moving story of a woman who once suffered from, but now lives with PCOS.

The Red Spot- pretty self explanatory, I think. If you click on the "deep stuff" link, you can find all sorts of info from period history to periods based on geography!

Yet ANOTHER health issue.

I've had something like a yeast infection for almost TWO YEARS. I last went to a gyno in January, she said it was just a yeastie being stubborn. Whatever websites I can find are very vague, saying it may not be a yeastie and see your gynocologist.

Just wondering if anybody had an idea what else it COULD be?

It's interfering with my sex life, it usually smells fine, but there's an almost perpetual yeast-like excretion, and it's tangy!

Well, I've been having this problem. I've noticed a bump about the diameter of a quarter and a quarter inch high where my leg meets my pelvis. Is this just like a heat bump or something? I get them and then they go away. Then they'll come back. I'm going to the doctor on Thursday for a sinus problem...is this something I should tell her?

Thanks,
Dana

Someone posted this link in [livejournal.com profile] vaginapagina - and I thought it was rather fabulous for girls who are asking questions about their first pap smear etc. It's from the Nuvaring site, so they do advertise a bit at the end - but the actual exam part is pretty good. Interesting visuals as well :) You have to scroll down all the way to the bottom of the page - and it's a little blue box that says Visiting The Gynecologist

All you need to know about your first pap smear/physical exam!

hi.

my friend went to see a naturopath recently for advice about her heavy periods.

apparently, the naturopath took a snippet of her hair and placed it on a thing that looked a bit like a big wooden suitcase. on one half there were six rows of about ten dials and on the other half there was a circle of what looked like wood. she put a little bit of liquid on the wooden circle before proceeding to rub her hand back and forth over the circle. as she was doing this, she turned the dials to different settings.

after about half an hour of this she stopped and told my friend what was wrong with her. from her piece of hair, she told my friend that her pituitary gland is very low, which means that that it can't do its job properly. this is problematic because its job is to control all of the other hormones and, because it's not doing this, her hormones are doing whatever they want, causing her periods to be really bad.

my friend had to write down all of the symptoms that accompany her periods and the naturopathe said that they were "very unusual". i'm not sure what her symptoms are but i do understand that she throws up and gets bad stomach cramps, both of which i thought were fairly normal.

the naturopath also told her that her thyroid is a little low but nothing to worry about. she also said that there is something wrong with the nerves going through her neck and down into her lungs (i don't know how she could tell this from her hair), which causes her to have coughing fits during which her lungs "spasm".

to cut a long story short, she's been put on medication...
  • Chasteberry plus - 1 tablet,3 times a day

  • Adreset - 1 tablet, 3 times a day

  • Thyro-complex - 1 tablet, every other day

  • B complex - 1 tablet, once a day

  • B6 - Once a day for one week before hrt period

  • Chromium 200 - Once a day for one week before my period

  • Yarrow - 10 drops in water,twice a day

  • E200 - 1 tablet, 3 times a day

  • Some un-named liquid - 1 drop, six times a day

  • Another un-named liquid - 1 drop, six times a day

  • Another un-named liquid - 1 drop, 3 times a day for two weeks before her period

  • Rye extract - 2 drops, every three hours

my friend is a big fan of herbal medicine but i have my doubts about its validity. she's from the kind of family which does not really believe in traditional methods (she's had no vaccinations against diseases such as MMR and TB). she thinks that most of the stuff "proper" doctors prescribe is "shit", partly because all they have suggested about helping her periods is putting her on birth control (which her mother opposes because she thinks there is a reason why her periods are so bad and that they shouldn't be messing with her menstrual cycle at the age of fifteen).

i know absolutely nothing about herbal medicine but this seems a bit excessive to me. does anyone have any experience with naturopaths? what is your opinion on the methods this woman used and what she prescribed?

i just want a bit of information in regards to this because i'd like my reservations and qualms about what her "doctor" prescribed to either be resolved or validated.

thanks in advance.
